Frequently Asked Questions: Installation and
Customization
Can ECONOFROST Be Installed at the Factory for Delivery to New
Stores?
It is always better to have the system installed at the factory,
especially since many manufacturers are willing to do so. This will
ensure a better finish and a less expensive installation cost. However,
where this is not possible, a retrofit is very simple.
Will ECONOFROST Work Despite Any Uncovered Portions of the Case?
The small gap or openings between two side-by-side units are accounted
for in determining actual energy savings. In general, they represent
an insignificant loss of energy as cold air tends to move downward
and the openings allow the unit to breathe and exchange humidity
levels with the outside.
What Standard Sizes Are Available in Each Type?
ECONOFROST shields
can be made in all possible sizes. At present we stock standard linear lengths of 4 foot, 6 foot and 8 foot cassette
units.
Can Special Sizes Be Made?
On request, ECONOFROST can be custom made in any size
required up to 12 feet in linear length and 94 horizontal inches
of fabric.
If an ECONOFROST unit must be slightly shortened, it can also be
accomplished with an electric aluminum cutter and instructions from
ECONOFROST.
Can 4 Foot Units Be Used in Multiples Instead of 6 + 8 Foot Units?
Most display cases are multiples of four feet in length, so many
four-foot units are commonly used. However, since there would be
openings between units and more units to install and operate, it
is better to install the larger units when possible. This reduces
the installation time and makes it easier to operate since less units
need daily handling.
Can the Length of ECONOFROST Be Customized?
Using a circular aluminum cutter, most shields can be shortened
by cutting through the fabric at the non-mechanized end. Consult
with the supplier for additional technical instructions.
Can the Height of the Units Also Be Custom Made?
The standard units measure a maximum of 80 inches. However, in rare
circumstances such as special walk-in coolers or container-fitted
coolers which must be enclosed, special height orders can be made
that are longer than the standard units which measure a maximum of
80” height.
When Is an Automatically Lowered Electric Unit Used?
Most supermarkets request the manual unit due to its lower cost
and simple installation. The automatic
electric unit is used by refrigeration
OEMs on new equipment or in very large stores whose display cases
were designed to have an electric night cover.
Where Is the Motor Located in the Electric Unit?
The specially designed electric motor fits right inside the tube
of the unit. No additional space is required to fit the system other
than the roll itself.
Can Several Electric Units Be Interconnected?
In most installations, several units can be installed side by side
or interconnected (electrically) to form a line of up to 100 feet
or more with no more than 1” separation between units.
How Many Units Can Be Driven with One Motor in the Electrical System?
No more than 36-48 feet of thermal shield should be operated off
one motor. There are special interconnecting parts that come with
each unit to precisely adjust the blinds so they are perfectly aligned.
Can Electrical Units Be Made into Manual or Vice Versa After Installation?
The electrical and manual units have different components and tubing.
Their components cannot be interchanged or adapted to alter the design.
Is a Motor Included When Ordering an Electrical Unit?
Electric units do not include motors and these must be ordered separately.
The term “electrical unit” means one that can be connected
to a motor.
